Robin Carhart-Harris, Ph.D.: Psychedelics, Science and the Subconscious Mind

Robin Carhart-Harris, Head of Centre for Psychedelic Research at the Imperial College of London, was initially trained as a psychotherapist, but found the scientific community not accepting the subconscious mind and repression as proven facts. He was frustrated to realize that something which was self-evident to him, was considered to be just a belief by many of his colleagues.

Robin’s journey to substantiate and continue the work of Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung led him to Stanislav Grof who used LSD to bring the subconscious into consciousness in well over a thousand of his patients in the 50s, 60s and early 70s. Dr. Grof considers psychedelics to be the “royal road” to the unconscious and has stated, “Psychedelics used responsibly and with proper caution, could be for psychiatry what the microscope is for biology or the telescope is for astronomy.”
